June 2025
In June 2025, Rural Aid volunteers travelled to Eudunda in South Australia’s Mid North to support farming families battling one of the harshest droughts the region had experienced in decades. After prolonged below-average rainfall, dry paddocks, failed crops and dwindling water supplies placed enormous strain on local farming communities. Across South Australia, many regions recorded some of their driest conditions on record through 2024 and into 2025, forcing farmers to hand-feed livestock, purchase expensive fodder and make difficult decisions about the future of their operations.
During the Farm Recovery Event, 30 volunteers worked alongside six local farming families to help ease some of the pressure created by the ongoing drought. Volunteers assisted with fencing repairs, property maintenance, vegetation clearing and practical farm jobs that helped restore function and safety across affected properties. Beyond the physical support, the event delivered something equally important – connection, encouragement and the reminder that farming families facing difficult seasons are not alone.
