Coraki, New South Wales

July 2025

In July 2025, Rural Aid volunteers travelled to Coraki in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales to support farming families still recovering from the catastrophic flooding that devastated the region in recent years. Situated at the junction of the Richmond and Wilsons Rivers, Coraki was heavily impacted during the 2022 Northern Rivers floods, when record-breaking rainfall caused rivers to rise rapidly and inundate homes, farmland and critical infrastructure across the district. The flooding isolated communities, damaged fencing, paddocks and farm infrastructure, and left many local families facing an enormous and ongoing recovery effort long after the floodwaters receded.

Over a two-week Farm Recovery Event, 29 volunteers worked alongside 15 local farming families to help restore properties and ease some of the pressure created by the long recovery journey. Volunteers assisted with fencing repairs, clearing debris and completing practical farm jobs that helped families continue rebuilding their farms and livelihoods. Beyond the physical support, the event delivered encouragement, connection and a reminder that rural communities across Australia stand together through hardship, recovery and rebuilding.
