Eugowra, New South Wales

March 2023

In 2023, Rural Aid volunteers travelled to Eugowra in Central West New South Wales to help farming families recover from one of the region’s most devastating flood disasters. In November 2022, a powerful wall of water tore through the community after intense rainfall caused widespread flash flooding across the Lachlan River catchment. Described by many locals as an “inland tsunami”, the flood destroyed homes, fences, machinery, livestock infrastructure and essential farm equipment, leaving families facing a long and emotional recovery.

Over the course of the Farm Recovery Event, 23 dedicated volunteers worked alongside seven local farming families to help rebuild what had been lost. From repairing fences and clearing debris to lending practical support and encouragement, every task completed helped ease the pressure on families still recovering months after the disaster. More than just restoring properties, the event brought people together, reminding the Eugowra community that they were not facing recovery alone.
